Snack Time
I love living in Colorado. I especially love living here in the Fall! The sky takes on a different shade of blue, the leaves turn beautiful hues, the air becomes clearer and cool.
I always feel a different level of being Alive when the seasons change. I had a friend, who has passed on now, who used to say she felt “friskier” when fall weather came. I agree! I love being outdoors, but in the autumn I feel like I want to be outside moving, hiking, running all the time. (Probably not getting as hot and sweaty has something to do with it too!)
It has been a full and good summer of art for me. I have especially enjoyed the last projects and events in August and September. The first half of August we spent getting our youngest kid off to college. Woohoo! We got home from the cross country drive and I jumped right back into art. I have been moving toward doing more public art in my practice and I had two public projects for August.
I was commissioned to do a mural for the Broomfield Sidewalk Mural Project. There were six artists doing murals in different parks. My mural titled Follow the Fish is a 20 × 8 foot, 3D ground mural of a whimsical river of rainbow fish and Colorado flowers located in North Midway Park in Broomfield, CO. They wanted something that would surprise and delight trail users as they came upon it. My street chalk art skills definitely translated well to making a ground mural. I am used to the perspective and the physical work of it. Doing chalk art is always like doing a workout - up and down and stretching- all day (or days) long! The mural took 5 days to paint and coat. It was 95+ degrees every day I painted. The day after I finished it was cool and rainy. I am glad the rain held off, but I wouldn’t have minded the cooler temps! I did enjoy creating in the park and interacting with park-goers as I painted.

At the end of August I participated in Art in the park in Granby, CO. 12 artists had been selected to paint murals on 8×4 ft birds. My husband got to spend his birthday up in the mountains painting a mural with me😜 It was such a lovely event, connecting with other artists and creating. That area of Colorado is one of our favorites so when I was selected it was a no-brainer to say I’m coming! The weather during the event was typical Colorado - rain, sun, hail, wind, 40 degrees and 80. There is a saying here that if you don’t like the weather, just wait 10 minutes. And it is true. We often have every season in one day. My piece didn’t win the festival, but I feel like I won in a lot of other ways. Spent some days in my favorite mountains, created something beautiful, celebrated my hubby, met awesome people, and got paid!

September 6, I drew at Walk the Chalk in Littleton, Colorado. This was the second time and it was a great event. The atmosphere in old Downtown Main Street is like something out of a Hallmark movie😁 The festival-goers are really into the art and there are places to eat and shop. I love doing street chalk art because of the interactive nature. I enjoy talking to the spectators and seeing their reactions. The reactions were really good, my piece won the People’s Choice Award! Snack Time was a super fun piece to make. It was a good way to wrap up my summer festivals.

I am actually en route as I write to be with my father who is ill. So turning from my art focus for a while to other things in life. Ah well, just as seasons change, there are different seasons in life. I do have some other projects coming up. Stay tuned! And the opening of my art shop is very close!! In time for the holidays😊
Thank you for supporting my art journey!
Peace, Tessa
