Summer is officially here! 😎☀️🌼🌈
Summer came in hot hot hot to Colorado with a couple of 100 degree days. I was thankful the weather was cooler for my first June event - the iconic Denver Chalk Art Festival.
A little backstory…
I have participated in the festival almost every year since 2013. It is special to me because it is the first festival I showed my art in public. My eldest daughter was my assistant. I submitted and got in and we ended up winning third best in show. I didn’t even know it was a competition! My husband and kids had been out with me all that weekend and we were hot and tired and had gone home. A friend called and said, Where are you?! They just announced your name for an award!
Fast forward to 2025…
My youngest son has been going to all my art events since he was six years old. He always wanted to be my “assistant” . At the chalk fest he would run around and talk to all the artists, mooch snacks, and draw on the curb. This year he turned 18 and submitted on his own. He was a selected artist and created his own piece❤️🙂
I love that he is getting out there and doing his art. He will also be an artist at two other street art festivals with me this summer. Then off to college to study art and design.
Better than any award is seeing my kids step into their own creativity and passions.

Our next event is the Salida Chalk Art Festival June 28th. Last year we participated in the inaugural festival and had such a blast! River, mountains, thriving art scene and downtown….we had such a great time. If you are in Colorado and want to take a nice day trip, come out for the fun! (By the way, my youngest son got People’s Choice award at this- his first- festival!)
Later in the summer we will be creating at the 7/20 Memorial Day of Resilience on July 26th in Aurora. This event is dear to our hearts because it is in our city and honors the ones lost in the tragic cinema shooting in 2012. The event includes a fun run, entertainment, and a beer fest as well as the chalk art.
September 6 I will be in Littleton at the Walk the Chalk. Downtown Littleton is charming and cute and fun to walk. Last year was my first time at the event and enjoyed it so much. My piece won 2nd place. (And again, I didn’t even know it was a competition!)
Fun(ny) Fact…I am a competitive person. Usually, that was in athletics or academic oriented stuff. Or games. I actually gave up playing board games for about ten years because I was too competitive.😜
But I never thought of ART as a competitive thing. Although I try to do the best I can do, it is more for the joy and satisfaction of creating something good. BUT cheers to Art awards and being awarded contracts and proposals! I will gladly take it!
Thanks for supporting me in my art journey. If you are a newsletter subscriber, you are automatically entered into our Quarterly Art give-aways. We will be randomly drawing a winner at the end of this month. Annnd coming soon…we will be opening Two Tigers Art Shop! Stay tuned.
Best regards,
