January 2025 TessaFuquaArtworks
Happy New Year! Hope you all have had a good start to 2025. I entered this year traveling to visit with family and friends. It was a good segue from ‘24 to ‘25. Now I am in the process of a first round of submittals and proposals for some projects. I am moving toward doing more public art as part of my art practice.
Practice, practice, practice. What does it really mean? When we refer to some professions, we say we ‘ practice law’ (which I once did!)... or ‘ practice medicine’ …or ‘practice accounting’ …and more.
I feel like I practice art.
Pablo Picasso said, “Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.” When our kids were young they were very free in their creativity - in how they created make-believe roles and scenes and worlds in their play, in how they would draw on every sheet of paper in the house, how they were bold in giving us their art because they believed every piece was a masterpiece, in how they made things in such out of the box ways. I think most people are like that. But as we get older we feel more compelled to follow rules and protocol and we stop “playing” and stop being as creative.
Well, when I entered into art as a ‘profession’, I was definitely not a kid any more! In these last 12 years or so I have ‘practiced’ art. My solution to Picasso’s problem is to let myself play and create. To learn and just do it until I am good at it (or at least better!) And to be bold like a little kid and put my art out there. To practice art. To believe I make masterpieces 🙂
In the spirit of continuing to practice art - and believing that it is good - I am starting a quarterly art giveaway! Everyone subscribed to my newsletter will be automatically entered. You could receive a small Tessa art work or product!
Thanks for following and supporting me in my art journey.
Cheers!
Tessa
